Auschwitz and Birkenau…

I’ve waited a long time to see the site of the largest WWII concentration camp. It was really moving. It felt strange to take pictures, so I just looked and listened. It was just as emotionally draining as you might imagine.

Luckily I met a great New Yorker on the bus and we had a lovely dinner and a walk after.

Tomorrow I’ll wrap up my sightseeing here in Krakow. A lot will be closed because of the holiday, so we’ll have to see what I can find.

Bye for now!

Krakow day 2…

I’m especially tired today for some reason.

Good thing I’m on a bus tomorrow.

Today was free day at the castle…oh, wait, that’s why I’m tired. So…many…people…

I’ve got to stop doing that. It’s certainly not worth saving a little money. But the castle and cathedral were cool. No pictures are allowed inside, so it made it easier to just enjoy looking. The church especially.  Many kings of Poland were crowned and buried there. So fancy. I’m sure there’s pics online.

After that there was a street fair where I paid way too much for a meal of delicious grilled meat.

It was only 3 at that point, so I jumped on a walking tour of the old town. As always, I learned some about the city and its people. The guide talked a lot about pope John Paul the second, of course.

I’m beat, so goodnight and love to y’all

Sunday in Krakow…

What a day. I’m beat.

Emotionally it was tough because I learned a lot about the fate of the Jews in Krakow in WWII. Not at all news: it wasn’t good. The guide was great though. Her university degree was in comparative world religions…so she was very knowledgeable.

After an art walk, the history walk, an art museum,  three churches, 30 thousand steps, and 10 hours outside, I’m ready for bed.

Tomorrow…..more history…and more art, this time at Wawel cathedral and castle. Should take all day❤

If I’m lucky I’ll get to the walking tour that starts at 8 pm, a haunted Krakow tour.

Have a good week

Travel to Krakow day…

As usual, I tried not to “do” anything today.  Did get a bunch of walking and picture taking in, though.

Krakow seems good so far. There’s a marathon tomorrow, a film festival this weekend, and 2 national holidays while I’m here. So lots of people,  lots of excitement!

I’m looking forward to the next few days. The town center is very walking friendly.

Good night and have a great Saturday!
