Awesome museum date…

So today was kinda awesome. A long wander around, then a museum date with JunHee was the perfect Sunday.

As a jumping off point, I took a look at the Dongdaemun Culture Park. Very shiny, new place with some modern art.

Across the street was some enticingly old looking stuff. The City Wall Museum was the proof that I’d been wanting; Korea wants to preserve its past. Everything is so new here! This museum details the efforts of the government to show some very interesting history. The walls and gates are being preserved and rebuilt. In a few years, I’ll come back to see how fantastic it is.

Afterwards I thought I’d just walk to the museum, it can’t be that far, right?

Hahahahahaha Seoul is ****** big!

Found a bus and some lunch. Kimbap of course.

Spent a delightful few hours with lovely Junhee seeing Seoul. A lantern festival is happening right now. So cool.

Here’s todays pictures…

This building was very modern
Some super famous Iranian was the architect
Lots of female figures scattered around
The excavation revealed centuries old relics of course. The Japanese didn’t leave a lot standing, so just a little
The Heunginjimon gate (aka Dongdaemun gate)

These rubbings were taken off found building blocks all over Seoul, dating from 100’s of years apart. They detail repairs, reconstruction, and builders.
Neat old map of the city
Building methods over the ages
Section of reconstructed wall
I think the idea is to completely rebuild the wall and make a continuous park as an attraction. I’d go see that!
Todays feast in a nameless park

This touristy attraction is built entirely on reclaimed islands
Another place to attach padlocks. Its very popular with couples in Asia
I was Astonished to find a goodwill store here. Of course I went in….and you know what? A thrift store’s a thrift store, anywhere in the world lol
It was like a parade, each of these “floats” was sponsored by a business

It really was a festival, with games, food, and rides

Short balloon rides, only about 10 dollars
I beleive 2017 is the year of the rooster?
The beautiful and talented JunHee
Yours truly
