Day 12: Aljucen to Alcuescar

Miles 12

Nice day of walking, followed by a beer in a plaza with a couple from Australia.

The place I’m staying at tonight is pretty nice. Still bunk beds in a dorm, but the place is new.

Today’s path was mostly through a kind of nature preserve.

These cows and I had a standoff. Eventually they let me pass.

The hostel tonight has an attached bull ring. It’s newly built and only used for parties, but still kind of cool.

Day 11: Merida to Aljucen

Miles: 11

Was up pretty early today, so I had an extra coffee with the time.

Also, I lost my water bottle and didn’t realize it until I started walking. Which would be a BAD THING, except that today was relatively cool. Lucky me.

Tonight’s hostel has a pretty sprung mattress. My tailbone has been reminding me that I can literally stay anywhere i want.

Day 10: Torremejia to Merida

Miles 10ish

It was a very short day, but i made it longer by walking slowly and visiting with the Canadians. Nice folks.

Merida is full of old roman stuff. I’ll go out and see it after the sun gets less hot.

We’re over 200 km along already. It’s amazing and going by pretty fast.

This sign actually means: walk on the road unless you want muddy shoes

Day 9: Villafranca to Torremejia

Miles: 16

Today’s walk was sponsored by: sideways wind gusts of over 20 mph.

Otherwise things are good. Tomorrow, we all end up in Merida. The walk is only 3 hours, so we’ll all have an entire afternoon to see the city.
