July 18th

Had a chance to sit and talk to dad today. I’ve seen him every day this week. Still found things to talk about.

I was out walking today. At the path by Skinner Butte park the marathon runners were exercising and a bunch of them swept past me with a loud whooshing sound. Man, those dudes are fast. I’m just amazed. So little body fat.

My first couchsurfing guests in quite a while are here. The guy’s a PhD candidate from Germany, living in Hawaii, studying vaccines and nanobodies and shit and goddam it was interesting talking to him. Sooo smart. He’s working on perfecting vaccine production techniques for some really virulent shit. Marburg viruses are one of them. So how the viruses are studied is by using llamas, and he’s making a procedure that makes it possible to not use llamas, because keeping llamas is apparently very expensive lol. Also not very ethical either, like why using monkeys in science experiments is not ok. So anyway I asked him a bunch of questions and he got really tired of talking about it lol. Poor guy, he’s on a vacation.

Nice day.

July 17

Spent some time getting my company off to the airport this morning. I took Laura around the neighborhood and showed her my favorite front yards. This 52nd year is going to be a thrill ride for the ages lol.

Mom was in a decent mood today. That was nice to see.

Had a couple of hours at Loras house talking about chickens and stuff. I tell you, man, my life is amazing.

After a delightful few hours with Allisa, I walked around the track event looking at the setup. Got caught in the exodus and got swept away. Lots of sunburns in the crowd.

So that’s it, my birthday week is over. It was really good to take the time to hang out with everyone. Didn’t miss but one or two important people.

July 16th

Had a darn nice day. Snacks and talk at the garden center, then a nap and some party shopping, then my family over for delicious homemade cake and visiting. And yes that is an entire can of sprinkles on my cake.

My gift from charisma was a bar of soap. I’m sure there’s no hidden meaning lol.

Week of July 15th

Well, it’s been an amazing few days with family. Yachats is a nice as always, and it was great spending time with dad, visiting his sisters and their offspring.

I am now officially and hilariously one of the older generation at these events. Several young people made a point to come and talk to me. It was sweet. They let me go on about old lady stuff, like when it pissed me off that the elves showed up at helms deep in the two towers movie. Lol.

Anyhoo it was fun and we’ll do it all over again in 2024. Plans are in the works for a winter visit next time.

Tomorrow I’ll have my last bit of company. A week of hot weather is on the way and I’ll enjoy it immensely.
