I had a delightful morning walking and looking, and while consuming sugar and caffeine met the neatest gal. We spent the rest of the day sightseeing and talking.
Vientiane has a walkable central area. We saw a lot of the town in most of an afternoon. Tomorrow is something called Buddha park. It’s about 10 miles out of town.
Food and bottled water is cheaper here. That’s a relief! Had a good bowl of soup for 2 bucks.
Vientiane means “land of many mosquitos”…or it should! Holy cow!!
The bus ride today…glad that’s over. Everything was made okay again when the bus unexpectedly dropped us all off 2 blocks from our hotels. Usually they take you out of town a little bit, and you have to get a taxi.
I’m excited about tomorrow’s sightseeing. The riverfront walking area will be a great way to get some exercise. I’ve been slacking!
Up early today for my first ever hot air balloon ride. So great! It’s quiet and so peaceful up there.
I finally found the nerve to get a haircut. The hairdressers here don’t cut a lot of non-asian hair, but I’m pleased with the result. For 6 bucks, it’s great!
Also, I took a nap.
Lol, really that was it. Took a couple walks across town and had a pretty good bowl of green curry for dinner.
Tomorrow I move on to Vientiane, the capital city of Laos. Looking forward to that. The bus ride should take just a few hours.
Nice easy day. The minivan picked me up early, and the drive was uneventful. Bad roads here in Laos made a 63 mile trip take 3 hours! It’s good, bc we drove safely.
Checked in to the hostel here and saw the only thing there was to do (a wat), mailed a package, had a beer, rested, arranged for my next bus trip, and my hot air balloon trip. This all took 1 hour. Lol this isn’t a real big town.
Met some new acquaintances for an ok burger and some amazing fries.
