Belgrade days 1 and 2…

I forgot to do this last night, so hopefully I can remember everything.

Yesterday was a Monday,  so no museums. I went on a free walking tour that was pretty good. We spent a lot of time in the fortress and the park that it’s in. Very shady, lots of water fountains. Nice.

In the afternoon I went back to the park and walked around a lot more. I also found two podcasts about Belgrade and listened to those too.

Dinner was grocery shopping food. I’m actually kinda tired of restaurant food at this point lol.

Today, a visit to the Tesla museum. It’s small but the real reason people go is for the demonstrations. A guide operates a Tesla cool and runs some equipment and such. It was neat. That guy was so far ahead of his time it’s ridiculous. I didn’t know until today he was a vegetarian!

I tried to go on a free tour of communist Belgrade but I got to chatting to a bored tour guide who loved art and I paid to go with her instead. It was great, just the two of us talking about hipsters, urban development, and art.

Also I did some laundry and made a healthy dinner.

Tomorrow, a few art galleries and a cathedral.

Night!

Travel day to Belgrade…

It was quite warm in Belgrade when I arrived. Summer may be here at last.

My hostel is close to the main shopping area and several attractions, so that’s convenient.

I was a little worried when I checked in. The gal was handing out welcome shots like alcohol was going out of style. At 3 tomorrow morning,  we’ll see what happens.

Have a good day!

Day 4 in Sarajevo…

And shockingly, not enough time here. For such a small city, I ran out of days. I feel there’s more to discover here. Ahhh, someday, maybe.

Well, for my final day, I spent it outside as much as possible. A little rain cooled me while I ran around, which was great.

This area is a valley, which we know from the name. It’s small enough that I’ve basically seen three sides of it. Just missed the NW corner.

That means hills. Oh man, we’ve got great hills here. Surprisingly easy to conquer if you cheat a little like me today on the way to the bobsled track.

It was so cool up there. After the first 100 yards, just one couple and I had the place to ourselves. I guess the locals have seen it and the tour groups don’t go so far. Some internet folks have said it wasn’t super safe. BS. Those guys left fancy cameras in their backseat. Of course they’ll get robbed. If you’re like me and have nothing expensive, no problem!

The forest is quiet but for the birds and things. I looked hard for a Yeti, I must be on the wrong continent or something.

Just a nice time in the woods with neat graffiti to look at.

After a steep walk down, some dinner and a small art gallery. I got a piece of baklava from this shop that sells 16 different kinds. It was good, nothing spectacular.

On to Belgrade and Serbia tomorrow!

Trip to the Sarajevo countryside…

Wanted to get out of the city today. There’s a park out of town that can be reached by a bus and tram ride, called Bosna Springs. It took a bit of figuring out at the bus station. There’s not any actual signs or anything that tell you which buses leave from where lol.

The park was nice. Not a lot going on, but it was nice to have my picnic in the park.

Took a nice long nap when I got back to town, waiting for the ballet later. The tickets were only 7.50, so I was happy about that. It was a ballet troupe,  but the dancing was mostly modern. Really neat. It made me want to reread the story of Alice in Wonderland. In this version, tweedledum and tweedledee are spandex clad go-go dancers.

Tomorrow I’ll finish up with the museums. A few still look interesting, and maybe a short hike?
