Flam railway…

Long but great day.

Up early for a train to the west coast of Norway. I wasn’t really going to go to the expense, but Rick Steves said that if you go to Norway and skip the fjords, your passport needs revoking. I always do what he says.

The trains here are very nice. We were delayed several times but nobody got too upset.

The historic Flam railway was worth it. Trains are so much fun for me. And the town of Flam itself is super small and nice.

The highlight of my day, was of course the boat ride. The combination of the sun and water and the breeze….lovely.

Now I’m in Bergen. Nice place it seems. There a funicular I’m looking at riding tomorrow before my train back to Oslo.

Goodnight!

Very sunny today…

Just a fantastic day here in Oslo.

Completed the walking tour, found out that i’d seen it all yesterday lol. The downtown area isnt so big. Still cool, always enjoy all the factoids.

Took the bus to the ship museum. It’s small, like most museums here, but nice to see something in just an hour or two. The neighborhood was so pleasant I had a snack there and a walk around.

After my afternoon sit down, I went to see the Oslo opera house. You can walk around on the roof! Beautiful place to look at the docks.

Another walk along the promenade and my day was done.

Tomorrow I take a sightseeing train and boat ride to Bergen.

😊

Oslo day one…

It was great to walk around a biggish, international city, full of regular-type people. Copenhagen was good too, but Oslo has a way more diverse mix. Not just tourists and locals.

Also, so many gypsies! Lots more homeless people and begging than I could have imagined.

With all my preparation and careful packing, I have brought the wrong shoes. Aarrrgghh! I found a few second hand stores, but no luck so far finding another pair for a decent price.

I spent the morning on a tour which I abandoned bc rain, and the afternoon at the national gallery here. So good. Well organised and full of treasures too.

How does anyone here make it? I’m cheap and all, but damn…..shizz is ridiculously expensive here. As a for instance, the toilet at the train station costs 2.50 usd.😓

When the sun shines and the breeze comes up, man this city is delightful. Norway is frickin beautiful.

I’m enjoying my hostel stay. Got some bad reviews, but the bed is comfortable and there’s tons of hot water. A regular hotel room is 200 bucks so I’m very pleased.

Tomorrow I’ll definitely go to the Viking ship museum.
